AntiSpy Review

AntiSpy searches for spyware in real-time. In other words, the program monitors and alerts you as spyware applications attempt to install and run. Once a spyware component is detected you will be able to select it and read a brief description. Once components are found, you may click on the component to see a brief definition.

In our opinion Anti-Spy is missing just one feature — rollback capabilities. If you change your mind after deleting a spyware component you can't restore it. But spyware is easy to come by, so it’s likely you won’t suffer the loss for long.

AntiSpy does not search for as many known spyware components as other anti-spyware products in the marketplace. However, AntiSpy catches common ones and keeps their database updated regularly. AntiSpy is also a very simple application with a simple interface. It has automatic updates and a simple manual update process. The product is clearly targetted at the average home user. Anti-Spy also has a help section in their product and an FAQ section on their website. However, we couldn't find any FAQs relating directly to the AntiSpy product. There is an email address for support but they claim it's only for Enterprise products. The product is so simple I might add that I could not see ever needing formal support.

Also as with our other spyware reviews there are some useful customization options available in Anti-Spy. You can customize the type of scan you would like to perform and set up a scan reminder or an auto scan that will automatically start a scan at a given time. This is almost a must have feature and we are happy to see it included here.

We tested AntiSpy on Windows XP and Windows 2000 and it performed perfectly without error. Our scan took only 16 minutes on a thoroughly infected PC, which was very impressive.

Overall AntiSpy from Omniquad is a very simple and effective product. However, if you want the option to rollback changes or you feel the need for a more robust feature set, check out our higher-ranked products.
